Beach that inspired Virginia Woolf sold for 80,000 pounds
A beach believed to be the inspiration behind Virginia Woolf's novel To The Lighthouse was sold for £80,000.
Upton Towans beach in Gwithian, Cornwall and the lighthouse on nearby Godrevy Island inspired Woolf's 1927 novel.
The novel is set in the Hebrides but as a child Woolf regularly went on holiday with her family to Cornwall and her recollections are thought to have inspired the book.
The 71 acre beach and five acres of dunes were owned by Dennis Arbon, a trustee of the Hall for Cornwall, a performing arts venue in Truro.
