What is Ning?

Ning is a social networking site (think Facebook or LinkedIn) that is fully customizable!

What Features Does Ning Have?

HNN's Ning includes a chat room, a forum, an events calender, and all the social networking features you've come to expect from sites like Facebook and LinkedIn!

Why Should I Use Ning?

Do you have an event you want to publicize? Do you have a book idea that you want to float to others? Are you looking for an expert in a particular subfield? Maybe you just want stimulating intellectual conversation? You can do all of these things on Ning!

With all social networking sites, the single most important factor is the people who make it up. The best way to get the most out of Ning will be to register and use it!

How Do I Register?

It's easy! There is a link on the upper-right hand corner of the page to either register or to sign in.

Click on the sign up link, enter the required information, and click sign up! Your email address will serve as your sign-in name.

You will then be prompted to provide your full name, gender, country, city, and other pieces of information to help your fellow Ningers get to know you.

You are now registered for Ning! But you’ll want to customize your profile. Here’s how:

• Go to the My Page tab at the top of the main page
• This is your profile! From here you can upload a profile picture and configure your settings. To configure your settings, click on the Settings link in the box in the upper-right hand corner of the screen.
• You can configure your privacy settings, email alerts, and even connect to Twitter from this page!

With any social network site, the single most important thing is that users add their own content. Here’s what you can do:

When you first log in to HNN’s Ning Network, click on the Add Content button in the header bar. From here, you can invite friends to join, add an event, upload apps to your profile, add videos, and perhaps most importantly, make a forum post!

Posting on the forum means that YOU will be read by members of the HNN community, so get those pens flying!

By now, you’re probably wondering what else you can do on Ning. Believe me, that ain’t all, folks!

Yet another feature (and one that I’m particularly excited about) is a chat room! That’s right, for the FIRST TIME on HNN you can live chat with other members. The chat room is prominently located on the Ning main page. Just type and go!
