Ed Moise: Walt Rostow

To the Editor:

The obituary for Walt W. Rostow (Feb. 15) stated that in 1964 and 1965, Rostow had argued for"an intensive naval blockade of North Vietnam," and that President Lyndon Johnson had eventually adopted this measure. The latter statement is incorrect. It was not until 1972, long after Richard Nixon had replaced Johnson as president, that the United States imposed anything resembling a blockade on North Vietnam.

Sincerely yours,
