There's Hope Yet for France

Even within its own sheltered workshop, the EU, France has had to bow to the international market order. Pres. Sarkozy has reduced the costs of the 35-hour week. For hours worked beyond, employers will have to pay wages or salaries only: not taxes (“social costs”). It’s too much to hope that labour taxes will be reduced on all hours worked, of course. -- In addition, he’s reduced the top income-tax rate to 50% (hurrah) & virtually scrapped inheritance tax. Who knows -- free trade next? Scrap agricultural subsidies? (I can hope, can’t I?)
