Mark, that's a completely valid point. I agree that a Maoist dictatorship would not be an improvement over monarchy. I was just happy to see another vestige of anachronistic oppression fall off, but you're right that it matters what replaces it.

Two observations. First, the more significant change was that two years ago the monarch was stripped of all his powers and became a figurehead monarch. Second, this constitutional revolution was achieved as a result of a self-identified Maoist insurgency to which, of course, the "republican" United States was resolutely opposed. I've been following developments in Nepal for some time and I doubt whether you would have been so enthusiastic about events in Nepal as they unfolded over the past decade.
