John Gapper (quoted by Mark Brady) may be rightly angry at AIG. But the pending worldwide economic catastrophe reflects the failure of policy-makers to let people and corporations take responsibility for their mistakes. As I discuss below, Bernanke, Paulson, et al. are in a frenzy trying to avoid the collapse that their easy-money policies and willingness to hand over billions of taxpayer money have made possible.
