Jesse Lemisch and Staughton Lynd were, along with Howard Zinn, critical leaders amongst New Left historians in the 1960s and 1970s. Lemisch is professor emeritus of history at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. Lynd, who was dismissed from his position at Yale University after visiting Hanoi on a fact-finding mission during the Vietnam War, has long been an activist in Youngstown, Ohio, where he has lived since the 1970s. Robert Cohen is is Professor of Social Studies and Steinhardt Affiliated Professor in the History Department at New York University. He is working on a book on the classroom use of Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States."
