Start with Killing from Qur’anic Piety: Tamerlane’s Living Legacy. Then, read about Avicenna and finally watch the Egyptian movie "Destiny" which describes how religious extremists forced Avicenna to escape from Spain to Morocco in the 12th century. These are excellent teaching tools.
