Publicly, they not only remained SILENT but engaged in a defiant show of unity. The"undiplomatic utterances" of the Iranian president were simply covered up. Ahmadinejad went home thrilled to report"that support for the members in the case of any foreign invasion has been one of the most important approvals of the third extraordinary meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)." Moreover, Ahmadinejad was not shunned by his fellow Muslim leaders. On the contrary, he was given special honors:
While performing the tawaf, King Abdullah was accompanied by prominent leaders, such Malaysian Prime Minister and current OIC Chairman Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Sudanese President Omar Bashir and OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. The OIC leaders were also given an opportunity to pray inside the Ka'abah.
Ahmadinejad’s Holocaust remarks meet chorus of condemnation , reports the Indian Express but the condemnation was by the usual suspects. The US, EU, Russia and the"shocked" Kofi Annan who had just celebrated Palestine Day in front of a map in which Israel did not exist.
Not a single peep has been heard from the Muslim world in condemnation of Ahmadinejad's racism. They are too busy complaining about Danish Cartoons and protecting Islam from such attacks as advocacy of women's equality.
As I am always grateful for small favors, my spirit rose to receive an email from Tikkun declaring that the Muslim Public Affairs Council which is currently holding its convention in California (Joseph Wilson is scheduled to speak though I would not hold my breath. Last year he was supposed to address the yearly AFIO convention but to the horror of the organizers, simply failed to show up) has denounced the statements.
Los Angeles - (12/8/05) -- The Muslim Public Affairs Council today denounced statements made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who questioned whether the Holocaust took place and suggested that the state if Israel be dismantled and moved to Europe.
The Selective Muslim silence continues.
