The Historian; The Wild Man From Sugar Creek
The Historian isn't a history book! It's a novel about historians and vampires. Required reading for all historians. Think of the vampires as a metaphor.

The Wild Man From Sugar Creek is an old book - the biography of Gene Talmadge. For me, it was a reread, mostly for pleasure. The author captures small Southern towns and poor white people with remarkable accuracy. His writing is beautiful. He allowed me to summon up the years when I traveled from teeny burg to another teeny town - oh, and my first marriage. But that's another blog.
