It was good to see Davidson's Earl Edmondson dive into the free-for-all at Tim Burke's "Twizzle Twazzle Twozzle Twome". His comment comes from a historian who is better qualified than most of us to compare our puzzlement with the mentalite in Weimar Germany. Burke continues the discussion, by the way, with his most recent post at Easily Distracted, "Preparing a Place in the Museum of Failure".

Sometimes a social scientist should just throw in the towel -- admit that typologies have limited utility and that historians have been right all along in assuming that change over time is essential to any calculus.

The People's Republic of China has issued a report on The Human Rights Record of the United States in 2003. Snigger if you will, but it never hurts to see what you look like in someone else's mirror. Needless to say, we don't look so good in this one.
