He leveraged his fame from summitting North America's highest peak to advocate for the rights of native Alaskans, beginning with insisting that the mountain he climbed be known by its indigenous name, Denali.

The answer is yes. But the Ohio members of Congress are wrong to think the mountain was named in honor of the slain president. The naming took place before he was even nominated.
