Jack Lacy, Who Prosecuted Klansman, Dies at 69

BRANDON, Miss. (AP) — Jack Lacy Jr., who as an assistant United States attorney led the successful prosecution of a former Ku Klux Klansman in a civil-rights-era killing that was part of a failed plot to assassinate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., died on Friday at his home here. He was 69.

The cause was a single gunshot to the head, most likely self-inflicted, said the Rankin County coroner, Jimmy Roberts.
