Michigan school students tweeted KKK slogans after basketball game
Howell Public Schools officials continue to weigh follow-up action one week after a series of racist tweets from students brought unwanted attention to the local community.
Among the ideas being discussed are whether to expand social media training programs currently to given student athletes to the general school population.
“That has been mentioned,” district spokesman Thomas Gould said.
Students responsible for the tweets have faced disciplinary action, school officials said, without commenting on the specifics due to student privacy concerns.
Tweets from what school officials said were “four or five” students made reference to the Ku Klux Klan, Adolf Hitler and white power in the wake of their predominantly white high school’s victory in the state boys basketball tournament over a predominantly black team from Grand Blanc.
None of those involved were members of the school’s basketball team, school officials said.
