New book reveals how a Jewish doctor duped the Nazis
In a new book published by W.W. Norton, journalist Arthur Allen tells the story of the Jewish doctor who concocted a fake typhus vaccine administered to Nazi soldiers. While seeing that they received a vaccine that didn't work, he passed on a vaccine that did to Jews at a concentration camp.
It was one of the great deceptions of World War II. It was concocted by a quiet Jewish doctor imprisoned at Buchenwald in 1942. Only now is the full story being told in The Fantastic Laboratory of Dr. Weigl: How Two Brave Scientists Battled Typhus and Sabotaged the Nazis.
An excerpt from the book has been published by Politico, where Allen is the eHealth editor.
