Robert Conquest: Slated to Receive the Medal of Freedom

President Bush has announced that Alan Greenspan, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, and Muhammad Ali are among the recipients this year of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civil award. Mr. Bush will present the awards on Wednesday at the White House. The other recipients are Carol Burnett, Aretha Franklin and Andy Griffith, the entertainers; the historian Robert Conquest; Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn, designers of software code; Paul Harvey, the radio personality; former Representative Sonny Montgomery, Democrat of Mississippi; Gen. Richard B. Myers of the Air Force, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Jack Nicklaus and Frank Robinson, the athletes; and Paul Rusesabagina, who sheltered hundreds of people in hotel rooms in 1994 during the genocide in Rwanda.
