2009 Cliopatria Award Nominations: BEST INDIVIDUAL BLOG

Nominations are now closed. Winners will be posted here when they are announced at the AHA in January

Please submit, in comments below, your nominations for the best individual blog by historians or about history for the period from 1 December 2008. [registration not required to post nominations, but the usual rules of civility and conduct still apply] Nominations will be accepted from November 1st through 30th.

Please include a URL for the blog(s). You many nominate as many blogs as you wish in this category, and you may nominate individual posts or bloggers in other categories as well.

If you want ideas of blogs or writers to nominate, see the History Blogroll or past editions of the History Carnival or its related carnivals.

Bloggers do not need to be academic historians. If you're not sure whether a blog or blogger qualifies as"history," nominate them anyway and the judges will make a final determination. If you have questions, feel free to contact Ralph Luker or leave a comment here.

Judging Committee: Another Damned Medievalist, David Silbey, Miriam Burstein
[Judges are ineligible to win awards they are judging, but feel free to nominate them for something else!]

Now I feel a bit silly, having nominated John's blog first and then having 6 or 8 people independently (?) jump on and nominate it again. There's no need for this, people, it's not a popularity contest. One nomination would have sufficed.

Tenured Radical (http://tenured-radical.blogspot.com/): A truly wonderful blog, drawing on American history and academic life and connecting both in illuminating ways to current cultural debates.

Kevin M. Levin - 11/15/2009

I agree with everything Larry says apart from his last sentence. :) Boston 1775 is a first-rate site.

Larry Cebula - 11/12/2009

Boston 1775 is terrific. Bell is the only blogger I know that continually presents research in the primary sources as the subject of blog posts. And his rare foray into popular culture is learned and backed with research as well. See the series of posts on the mini-series John Adams for an example.

Bell should have won this award last year instead of that boring guy you gave it to.

Nick Poyntz - 11/12/2009

I'd like to nominate Early Modern Whale:

http://roy25booth.blogspot.com/

This blog is a treasure trove of obscure and interesting early modern texts, accompanied by intelligent and sensitive commentary.

Tim Abbott - 11/6/2009

I would like to nominate J.L. Bell's Boston 1775 blog, which is consistently excellent, well researched and documented history, with a dual focus on Revolutionary Boston and children in Colonial New England.
