1) Seeing U2 in Europe and possibly in the UK or Ireland
or
2.) Attending the British Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews
This is not entirely a moot exercise.
If golf isn't a spectator sport, why do so many thousands of people go to tournaments? Why do so many people watch it on TV? Further, it may be the only sport in which there is similar interest in both the PGA and the LPGA. We have an LPGA event here in Auburn and it is a madhouse of both women and men going to see some (not even Annika) of the best women golfers in the world. Saying it's not a spectator sport is like saying NASCAR isn't a spectator sport. I might not enjoy NASCAR but I do recognize it's immense popularity.
U2's music became very uninteresting for me right after Rattle and Hum. It seemed to lose it's edge (no pun intended).
But that's only because I'm in a cranky mood today. Despite what everyone else has said in favor of U2, it can't trump the Golden Bear's final professional tournament and his final time at the Open. never mind that you know el Tigre will be doing his very best to win that particular tournament given its significance. He may even be on his way to the Slam.
Despite Greg's comments, U2's new music is still interesting (unlike the Stones, who by 1980 had become a parody of themselves). Go with U2!
Golf may be fun to play, but a spectator sport it is not. Go to the British Open when you're too deaf from rock concerts (I'm beginning to resemble this remark) to enjoy them any longer.
Golf. U2 is boring and has been dead for years. Gimmee some Gloria, I Will Follow, New Year's Day and nix the new crap and I might change my mind.
Someday U2 will be as old as or older than the Rolling Stones and still likely performing. Although watching the Stones play their style of music at their age today is even more sensorally incongruous than will be watching U2 play their style of music when they're older, same principle applies.
So the choice is clear: See U2. In Europe. Before it's too late. Before they're as old as St. Andrews. Which along with the British Open will be around forever.
I would watch the golf tournament, I'm not a big U2 fan, but I would rather play St. Andrews.
U2. Golf is boring.
