I Am Big -- It's the Pictures That Got Small

No time at the moment for extended discussion, but this op-ed essay from Max Boot in the Memorial Day edition of the Los Angeles Times is not to be missed. A celebration of the"very fact that the entire world is divided up into American military commands," the piece concludes that freedom and prosperity are guaranteed around the world by American"power projection."

Just in case you were wondering how the Saudis and Egyptians protect their liberty.

Historians will be particularly fascinated by Boot's sense of how people showed up at the present moment:"Even Vietnam, a country that handed America its worst military defeat ever, is eager to establish close ties with Washington as a counter to Beijing."

This one goes in the trophy case for permanent display.
