2010 Cliopatria Award Nominations: Best New Blog

NOMINATIONS FOR 2010 ARE NOW CLOSED
Look for the announcement of the winners in January at Cliopatria

Please submit, in comments below, your nominations for the best new history blog since 1 December 2009. [registration not required to post nominations, but the usual rules of civility and conduct still apply] Nominations will be accepted from November 1st through 30th.

Please include a URL for the blog you are nominating, as well as the name of the blog. You may nominate as many blogs as you wish in this category, and you may nominate individual blogs or bloggers or posts in other categories as well.

If you want ideas of blogs or writers to nominate, see the History Blogroll or past editions of the History Carnival or its related carnivals.

Bloggers do not need to be academic historians. If you're not sure whether a blog or blogger qualifies as"history," nominate them anyway and the judges will make a final determination. If you have questions, feel free to contact Ralph Luker or leave a comment here.

I'd like to nominate In Pursuit of History for Best New Blog (http://inpursuitofhistory.com/). It's a very new blog (started in November) by Tom Sykes, who used to blog as the Gentleman Administrator. There are only a few posts so far to judge, but they do a wonderful job of talking about the public importance of history. Especially in light of the funding cuts and debates about history that are happening in England, Tom's posts are a nice interrogation of the importance of pursuing history.

In April 2010, the Business History Conference (BHC), the largest and oldest international scholarly association in its field, launched “The Exchange” <http://exchange-bhc.blogspot.com/>;. Its goal is to provide frequently updated information about the wide range of what business and economic historians do and the information that can help them do it. Please consider “The Exchange” for the 2010 Cliopatria Award for the best new blog.

“The Exchange” is striking, with a colorful 1847 engraving at the top, and clean lines throughout. The layout is not cluttered with widgets or ads. Its abundance of links are carefully categorized and easy to search, with easy navigation throughout. Other features offer ready subscription and a welcoming “Contact” page.

To date, “The Exchange” has had a posting almost every other day. These include announcements about relevant publications, funding sources, Internet sites, and upcoming events as well as news of individual historians and institutions. Although the BHC sponsors this blog, neither the topics of postings nor links are limited to its members or publications. As the pace of hits increases, the percentage of non-U.S. hits has been increasing, reaching 35% currently.
