Commandments for Good Writing

To my knowledge, there are several sets of commandments for good writing that circulate among historians. Here they bear the name of the prophet:

William B. Hesseltine, I (scroll down)
William B. Hesseltine, II
Horace Samuel Merrill
George B. Tindall

Aren't" commandments" supposed to come in tablets of 10? Do 27 commandments have a similar authority? Can't the American Historical Association convene a panel of distinguished historians to reach consensus on an authoritative tablet of 10 commandments? Thanks to David Davison at Patahistory for the tip.
