Additionally Noted Things

Chris Arnot,"Lord Skidelsky: Life and Tomes," Guardian, 4 July, looks back on the career of the British historian as he retires from academe to business.

Andrew S. Finstuen,"The Prophet and the Evangelist," Books & Culture, July/August, looks at the tension between Reinhold Niebuhr's"neo-orthodox theology" and Billy Graham's"pietistic individualism" as they struggled over protestant Christianity's message in mid-20th century America. Finstuen's article is quite good, but he'd have had a richer story had he brought Martin Luther King into full dialogue with two men from whom he learned and with whom he occasionally disagreed. Thanks to Jonathan Wilson, The Elfin Ethicist, for the tip.

Andy Peters,"Scholars: Rescue Forgotten MLK Papers," Fulton County Daily Report, 6 July, explores the question of ownership of and possible damage to massive collections of civil rights era documents that remain in the archives of the Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta.

Foreign Policy, May/June and July/August, features a roundtable discussion:"Does the Israel Lobby have too much Power?" Mearshimer and Walt launch the discussion. They are challenged by Aaron Friedberg, Dennis Ross, and Shlomo Ben-Ami. Zbigniew Brzezinski replies with remarks supportive of Mearshimer and Walt, who offer a concluding response. Thanks to Manan Ahmed for the tip.

Finally, our colleague, Taylor Owen, is guest-blogging"for the next short while" at Oxblog. His being there may cause me to read David Adesnik's posts and re-visit my penchant"to pull aYalie's nose."
