More Noted Still

Jason Epstein,"Books@Google," NYRB, 16 October, reviews recent books about Google and the future of the book. Epstein, at least, thinks it has a future because he's invested in print-and-bind-on-demand technology. Thanks to Arts & Letters Daily for the tip.

Wilfred McClay,"Felicitations," Commentary, nd, reviews Darrin M. McMahon's A History of Happiness."You'd have to be a little crazy to attempt writing a book like this one," says McClay.

Reviews of a new translation of Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Geoffrey Parker, ed., The Cambridge History of Warfare. Thanks to Alfredo Perez at Political Theory Daily Review for the tips.

Miriam Burstein has a round-up of links about John Bunyon and Pilgrim's Progress.

Richard Florida,"Where the Brains Are," Atlantic Monthly, October, tracks the urban concentration of college graduates and its effect on real estate values in the United States in the last half-century. Thanks to Ben Brumfield at Horizon for the tip.

Finally, congratulations to our colleague, Rebecca Goetz, whose "Mr. Book" is done and, even, statted. All that and cat-blogging, too!

I had the same reaction. Though I have to believe that any new translation would have to be better than James Clavell's version.

I know excerpts of it have been retranslated in recent years by a variety of scholars, but I don't know about full scale versions.

But the so-called review of Sun Tzu never actually says anything about this new translation! I have no idea if it's any better or worse than the Griffith or Clavell translations. What a waste of time. I don't need to listen to some fool rant about the militarization of America necessary to wage the War on Terror.
