Wandering abroad.

Revise and Dissent keeps going strong, providing a wonderful diversity of readings. Prithvi Datta Chandra Shobhi’s entry on tourism, cemeteries, and the Sepoy Mutiny is the latest fine example.

As long as we are abroad, Spiegel Online [in English] has a fascinating article on emailing the Wailing Wall. I went in expecting to laugh, but the more I read, the more natural this link between the web and worship seemed.

Here at home, debate over warrantless wiretapping continues. For an intriguing comparison, consider this Italian eavesdropping scandal and the argument that, in Italy at least, the only way to end corruption is to listen in surreptitiously. Clearly not all Italians agree with that, but their debate is a reminder to privacy near-absolutists such as myself that context matters.
