Still More Noted Things
On Wednesday 1 November, I will be the keynote speaker for Walden University's Academic Residency. I'll be talking on the theme,"Moments of Commitment," in the general session room of the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown at 7:30 p.m.
Du Buy? I have learned to read Mike Davis's work with a critical eye, but his"Fear and Money in Dubai," New Left Review, September/October, is well worth the read. Thanks to Mark Brady at Liberty & Power for the tip.
Insublogination: [ed.: Gotta be the ugliest word imaginable. Promise never to use it again!] Michael Calderone's"Off the Record" column for the New York Observer, 30 October, apparently has the inside story on Franklin Foer's firing of Spencer Ackerman at TNR. Apparently if, while on TNR's payroll, you roll out your own blog called Too Hot for TNRand you threaten to put a dent in your editor's head with a baseball bat, you can lose your job – even at TNR. Thanks for the tip to my virtual son, Andrew Ackerman at Outside Report, who would, btw, be a worthy, non-threatening successor to his non-relative, Spencer.
