Wednesday Notes




The American Scene is a welcome new"ongoing review of politics and culture" to which our colleague, Daniel Larison, is a primary contributor. Robert Fulford's"A Buffet Sure to Leave You Hungry," National Post, 26 June, sketches the history and logistics of an old friend, Arts & Letters Daily.

Today's announcement identifying an Egyptian mummy as that of Hotshepsut, a woman who reigned in the 15th century BCE, is potentially of great significance. If the identification is correct, it is the first since 1922.

Yesterday's dump of CIA documents from the 1950s-1970s has both the Times and the Post scrambling to find what is in them. You can access a full set of the documents here. The Times created a blog to which a panel of experts contribute their findings of significance in the document set. The Post's complete cover is here.
