2007 Cliopatria Awards Nominations: BEST NEW BLOG

Nominations are now closed.
Look for the winners to be announced in January

Please submit, in comments below, your nominations for the best new blog by historians or about history created since 1 December 2006. [registration not required to post nominations, but the usual rules of civility and conduct still apply] Nominations will be accepted from November 1st through 30th.

Please include a URL for the blog(s). You many nominate as many blogs as you wish in this category, and you may nominate individual posts or bloggers in other categories as well.

If you want ideas of blogs or writers to nominate, see the History Blogroll or past editions of the History Carnival or its related carnivals.

Bloggers do not need to be academic historians. If you're not sure whether a blog or blogger qualifies as"history," nominate them anyway and the judges will make a final determination. If you have questions, feel free to contact Ralph Luker or leave a comment here.

Judging Committee: Ancarett, Sharon Howard, John Carter Wood
[Judges are ineligible to win awards they are judging, but feel free to nominate them for something else!]

We will give this some consideration, but I can't promise anything. I'm sure a legal scholar will understand the problems created when you start making exceptions to the rules...

...because..umm... looting matters and David Gill's blog is an excellent way of keeping up with the sleazy side of what should be the historical record.

The Proletarian always has something interesting to say--both historical and practical.

The Legal History Blog. http://legalhistoryblog.blogspot.com/
It was created on 11/27/06, but this is the only year it can be considered in this category, and it was certainly brand new in December 06.

A fantastic concept executed with sensitivity and even wit. The blog is only just underway, but already you can get a good sense of where it's going to go and why it ought to be in your feed reader.

Lindsey - 11/27/2007

I nominate Jennifer Lyn Jordan's Per Omni Saecula: a fascinating and accessible new addition to the medievalist blogosphere. JLJ manages to be accessible and entertaining without sacrificing scholarly integrity at all.

Dear Cliopatria's Selection Committee,

Please consider Sterling Fluharty's PhDinHistory (http://phdinhistory.blogspot.com/) for Best New Blog. He's done yeoman's work this past year, under duress, on trying to understand the profession via statistics. While he's not always right---nor does he claim to be (which I admire), he is provocative. He makes us think about the profession in a new way.

I know from side notes that his department is pressuring him to give up blogging. By giving him this award, perhaps they (and he) will be persuaded to continue in making us think about things differently.

Sincerely,

Tim Lacy, Ph.D.
