2007 Cliopatria Awards Nominations: BEST INDIVIDUAL BLOG

Nominations are now closed.
Look for the winners to be announced in January

Please submit, in comments below, your nominations for the best individual blog by historians or about history for the period from 1 December 2006. [registration not required to post nominations, but the usual rules of civility and conduct still apply] Nominations will be accepted from November 1st through 30th.

Please include a URL for the blog(s). You many nominate as many blogs as you wish in this category, and you may nominate individual posts or bloggers in other categories as well.

If you want ideas of blogs or writers to nominate, see the History Blogroll or past editions of the History Carnival or its related carnivals.

Bloggers do not need to be academic historians. If you're not sure whether a blog or blogger qualifies as"history," nominate them anyway and the judges will make a final determination. If you have questions, feel free to contact Ralph Luker or leave a comment here.

Judging Committee: Rebecca Goetz, Paul Harvey, Elizabeth Klaczynski
[Judges are ineligible to win awards they are judging, but feel free to nominate them for something else!]

I think Civil War Memory http://civilwarmemory.typepad.com/

When the American Civil War is on the History Channel I switch off as the few few photons leave the screen. Kevin Levin's blog in contrast is something which is intelligent and I can enjoy reading.

I am pleased to nominate David Kaiser's insightful blog History Unfolding (http://historyunfolding.blogspot.com/) as the Best Individual Blog 2007 Cliopatria Awards. His blog discusses long-term trends in American foreign and domestic policies as they relate to specific recent events. In particular, I would like to cite the thorough and original research presented in the blog, such as his analysis of General David Petraeus's dissertation and the implications for the Iraq war.

Dear Cliopatria's Selection Committee,

Plese consider Kevin Levin's Civil War Memory for best individual weblog (url: http://civilwarmemory.typepad.com/civil_war_memory/).

What I like about Mr. Levin's work is that, in addition to being on target with regard to Civil War and memory, he also ranges into teaching issues, popular culture, and philosophical issues about the field. While not possessing a doctorate in history (so far as I know), he acts like a doctorate in that he thinks philosophically about his topic.

Let's encourage Kevin to maintain his high quality blogging by giving him this award.

Sincerely,

Tim Lacy, Ph.D.

Both thoroughly deserving.

Lisa Pease's Real History Blog. While I often disagree with her conclusions, Pease's research (focusing on theories of 1960's assassinations) is always incredibly exhaustive. She's that rare conspiracy theorist whose impeccable reasoning makes you constantly reevaluate your own scholarship.
