The Department of History and Political Science at Texas Woman’s University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History position beginning fall 2020. The successful applicant will be broadly trained in American History with a primary field in the 19th century. Subfields are open, although preference will be given to Borderlands, American West, or Cultural History. A preferred candidate will support our growing emphasis in Public History. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in History or American Studies and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and have an active record of research. The position will be responsible for teaching the U.S. History survey courses as well as upper-level and graduate courses in their field.

Required qualifications: · Earned doctorate in History or American Studies at the time of appointment · Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence · Demonstrated potential for research and publication Preferred qualifications: · Prior teaching experience The Department of History and Political Science offers Bachelor and Master’s degrees in History and offers a track in Public History for graduate students. The department has five tenured or tenure-track History faculty members (plus six Political Science faculty) offering degrees to approximately 100 undergraduate History majors and minors, and 20 Master’s students. Texas Woman’s University is located in Denton, Texas.
