HNN, in conjunction with the Historical Society blog is pleased to bring to you dispatches by Randall Stephens from the 2010 Historical Society conference at George Washington University.Index Day 1 Day 2 Day 3Day 1It is hot in Washington, D.C.  I flew into our nation's capitol on Wednesday and wilted immediately.  The heat and humidity, the residue of a former swamp, didn't keep away historians who came to explore the present and future of historical inquiry.  On Thursday I attended a few wonderful sessions that explored some of the basic themes of the 2010 Historical Society conference, held at George Washington University, and organized by Eric Arnesen.

How do I submit an article to HNN for publication?

HNN reaches a large number of readers. The website attracts some 300,000 unique visitors a month and 10 million hits a month. Writing for HNN can help you find an audience for your ideas and publications.HNN encourages readers to send in articles for possible publication concerning subjects in their area of expertise. Because we need to be able to assure our readers that writers are experts in the areas they discuss, we request that all submissions be accompanied by a resume.If you have a book coming out an op ed can be an ideal way to draw attention to it. We've found that a good op ed can push readers to buy a book they otherwise would pass up. Of course, we'd happily feature the book jacket along with the article (and provide a link to Amazon or whichever website you wish).Successful op eds make an argument that takes the reader from point A to point B. They should either tell the reader something new or frame an old issue in a new way. Articles may include the author's opinion but primarily serve as vehicles for informed analysis with an emphasis on history.HNN encourages the wide dissemination of information and therefore allows other publications to reprint our articles unless the author expressly requests copyright protection.
